Hi
I have been trying to have the internet flow from 1 nic to a virtual machine then to another virtual machine and the out to both the host and 2nd nic, I have mannaged the start and end but for some reason the connecting of the 2 virtual machines is not working, any ideas would be helpful.
Thanks

First of all, what makes you think this is a Virtualbox issue? What diagnostic have you made, using which tools? What is the output? Did you locate the issue?
Second, you really need to give more info about your Virtual Machine if you expect any kind of help. Provide the guest settings using this topic for the command, as a zip attachment.

Re: Vitual to Virtual networking
I do not think that it is a virtual box issue rather than the way that I am trying to network the 2 virtual machines together(I just hae not been able to work out the correct settings between the 2), the testing that I have done is having a stand alone virtual machine and the internet is redirected from the firts nic throught a virtual ipcop that I have setup with update accelerator, without the virtual ipcop turned on there is neither internet for the host pc or the second nic which I have bridged to the virtual host. When I turned on the virtual machine I have internet on both and can see it caching updates with the update accelerator.
I have been able to set up a second test machine(Windows XP) that will connect to the virtual network. I then setup a second ipcop and tried different combinations for its fist virtual nc to try to get it to connect to the firts ipcops second nic, I have tried to ping the different combinations and when I get a connection then I watch to the tails logs to see if the traffic is flowing and this is the part that I cannot work out.
I do think that I have the input to the virtual machine working fine because the standalone virtual machine does what I want it to it is just that virtual connection from virtual machine to virtual machine that has got me stumped.
Any help would be great and I will try to post the guest settings
Thanks

Re: Vitual to Virtual networking
I cannot really picture what you are trying to achieve to be honest.
Once you post the guest settings and a schema of how you want things to be in the end, I can help on the Virtualbox configuration part.

Hi Noteirak
What I am trying to acheive is to have a virtual ipcop with update accelerator setup so when I do updates on the home network it only has to collect 1 copy and deliver it to all of the pc (this part I have been able to do, with the added bonus of not having to change anything on the pcs collecting the updates) now I am into the second part that I would like to be able to filter the content on the home network using ipcop with dansgaurdian (they do not play well together in the same ipcop) which is the reason that I would like to run all the internet traffic from nic 1 through virtual ipcop with the update accelerator straight through to the other virtual ipcop with the dansguardian out to nic 2 and the host pc. I have attached a schematic for you to see what I am trying to acheive. The internet connection that I am on is slow with out the availability of ADSL, also i do not mind the challenge.
Thanks

Re: Vitual to Virtual networking
I think I understand, and I would do the following :
First IPcop
NIC#1 : Bridge on the NIC1 on (Let's call it NET#1)
NIC#2 : Internal on default internal network (Let's call it NET#2)
Second IPcop
NIC#1 : Internal on default internal network (NET#2)
NIC#2 : Bridge on the NIC2 (Let's call it NET#3)
Host
NIC1 : Disable TCP/IP
NIC2 : Confgure Gateway to IP of Second IPcop NIC#2 (NET#3)
Rest of the network
Confgure Gateway to IP of Second IPcop NIC#2 (NET#3)
NET#1, #2 & #3 must be on different subnets, and you will have to configure routing on both IPcops, and NATing on first or second IPCop (up to you)
