No VirtualBox VMs Folder

Hi guys newbie to VB and not the most experienced tech guy but I learn fast. I am trying to run windows 7 on my Mac for an aerial video platform that requires a windows OS.
I installed VB and the ext pack without issue, but when trying to create a new Virtual Machine (my first) I continually get this error message.
"Cannot Create the Machine Folder windows-7-template in the parent folder Users/Pat/VirtualBox VMs
Please check that the parent really exists and that you have permissions to create the machine folder."
I went into my users folder and couldn't find any folder name Virtual Box VMs, what I am wondering is why did this folder not come with the install. (I have tried re installing) Can I just make a new folder named Virtual Box VMs? Anyone else encountered this error message?? To be clear, I do not have windows 7 on disc yet. I assumed you make the VM then install the guest OS that you wanted. Correct?
Edit: After reading through the manual a number of time I don't think this is supposed to happen. Something has happened.
