Video trouble with GA vs initial install

Hello, Am new to VB so please bare with me. I have a question concerning the graphic capabilities with in VB. I am running Host: Windows 7 64 bit professional, Also installed the same OS on VB. On the initial install of VB I can receive all the resolution my Video card offers: at this time the guest display driver is a Standard driver. However, When I install guest addition the driver changes to a virtual box graphics adapter and my resolution falls to a meek 1166 x 768 as its highest setting. Thus rendering my purpose of the VB useless. I can go back to no GA's, but lose many other features. I am sure this has been addressed before, but would go blind seeking it. Can anyone help me with a solution. Thanks Daka

I hope that was using a separate CD key, otherwise you might have activation problems if your license does not allow multiple simultaneous activations.

Drag the window to the size you want.

Thank you for your response. I haven't had a problem with the activation. I probably left out many details of my original question. I have a high end video card and my physical monitor can only handle 1600 x 900. The original install of the guest VB would allow me to right click the desktop and change the resolution of the guest up to 1600 x 1200 which worked very well. After installing the GA's the same procedure would only produce the option of 1166 x 768 which is probable were it was positioned at the time. With GA's installed the best screen drag I can get is full screen monitor best 1600 x 900. I would like to know if I can get the original install option of 1600 x 1200 back with GA's installed....Thanks again Daka

Additionally, if you want full resolution use the host+F toggle to go in and out of full screen, otherwise the borders of the window mode will prevent full size resolution.

There are two things which will influence this. The first is that the image still has to be displayed on the physical monitor, so it cannot be at a better resolution than the physical device. I can't see how you got 1600x1200 on a 1600x900 monitor.

The second thing to consider is that the resolution of your physical video card does not really come into it. The vm does not see that device directly - it sees only its own emulated video card. The vm will only use the physical video card if you install the WDDM driver in the GAs.
