Make sure of the following :
1. Virtualization is enabled in the BIOS
2. Hyper-V is not installed, or any other software that require the Virtualization feature of the CPU
3. The VM is configured to use VT-x/AMD-V AND the OS type is set to a 64 bits one

I have the same problem but I disabled Hyper-V after VM Ware installation complained about Hyper-V. VB still sees no 64bit CPU and VM Ware crashes now the whole machine during setup of W7. I moved to a new machine yesterday with Windows 8.1 from a machine with W7 where everything went fine.

After the third boot it runs now without problems! :D
