Hello,
I'm sorry to say that DnD is not working in VirtualBox 4.3(=>) in any Host (windows, OS X, Linux).
Please take care of that issue

According to the
manual this feature is only supported on Linux guests. You mention 3 hosts. Are you running 3 different hosts or did you mean 3 different guests?

I just tried it on an OSX 10.6.8 host with an Ubuntu 12.04 guest. Dragged a text file from my host desktop to my guest VM. Cursor changed to the typical "Copy cursor" in OSX. Released the mouse and the file appeared on my Ubuntu desktop and opened correctly with gedit. Do you have the correct version of the Guest Additions installed in the Guest?

Guest addition version was same as VBox version

Just a silly question. You do have Drag and Drop enabled in your VM, right?
VM Settings -> General -> Drag'n'Drop -> Bidirectional or HostToGuest

As far as I understand the feature description d&d is supported for single files, not for folders.

NICE CATCH!!! It doesn't support folders! But, you
can drag multiple files. Something which I didn't know since I don't use D&D. I discovered by trial and error that it also doesn't support files with spaces in their name, i.e. "This file.txt" won't work...
