USB Device Not Attaching

Post by kseymour »

Hi,

I have a Symbol WT4090 handheld Windows CE 5.0 device in a cradle that connects to the computer via USB. This device is only really supported on Windows XP with ActiveSync 4.5 (ActiveSync died after XP and became something else and then CE 5.0 support was dropped in Windows 7).

I'm trying to use my Windows 7 host + VirtualBox 4.3.2 + Extensions Pack to present this device to my Windows XP guest. When I try to attach it nothing happens on the guest or the host. If I try to attach it again I get the following error.

Result Code:
E_INVALIDARG (0x80070057)
Component:
HostUSBDevice
Interface:
IHostUSBDevice {173b4b44-d268-4334-a00d-b6521c9a740a}
Callee:
IConsole {8ab7c520-2442-4b66-8d74-4ff1e195d2b6}

I've tried using a USB filter and not, USB 2.0 on and off, unplugging and plugging in the device in various configurations, etc, but nothing seems to work. My host PC recognises the device, but it is unknown (shows under Other Devices because it is no longer supported under Windows 7).

If I attach a different USB device, say my keyboard, that works fine. I'm at a loss and was hoping people might have some suggestions to try.

Thanks,

Kevin
