New intel hardware with core i7 64VT support, etc. came with Window 8 (no COA sticker.. they said the CD Key was embedded in the BIOS of this machine?? but I don't see it anywhere. Extracted the Key, installed a Windows 8 VM and upgraded along the way until I had a clean VM at 8.1. I called to Activate, and they ask you how many computers you are running on... ONE. ok so I get the VM activated and all seems cool. I rebooted sometime later and the VM now shows "not activated", so I get back the EULA which say the software cannot be virtualized in anyway way, and they go on to say only one copy is allowed on the machine (virtual or standlone) and you are allowed to have 1 backup copy which is legally 2 copies. I fully intended to use the VM as my backup, or more precisely a malware bait "sandbox" while I keep the original Win8.1 standalone clean running VirtualBox pretty much as a decicated function. Same EULA issues with the other Microsoft OS's, and breaks activation which in the case of Windows 8.1 is a problem. Microsoft mention some other crap about virtualization on a Windows 8 partition becoming more of a security issue.. whatever.
Ok so I am not paying MS for a *key* for every instance of a Windows 8.1 VM on the same friggin laptop.... somehow that isnt right because the hardware is VT assisted with 8 cores so how can they limit the product so severely? Ok I am moving onto a different bootos (one of the linux flavors I suppose) and I need to research up on UEFI bootloader to dual boot this configuration until I can make the transition. I know other people have been down this road before me, but I'd like to have a bootos that basically serves up my VirtualBoxs. I know alot of people Window Server 2012, but I suspect it has the same EULA issues so I am looking for the best alternative. If someone has any ideas about which platform for Virtualbox bootos/server, I'd appreciate the feedback.

Start with the End user documentation. The rest of your issues are not VBox related unfortunately.mapsurfer wrote:If someone has any ideas about which platform for Virtualbox bootos/server, I'd appreciate the feedback.
