Kernal Panic

Post by steve723 »

Here is a copy of a post I made to the Kubuntu forums at http://www.kubuntuforums.net/forumdispl ... stallation

Code: Select all

[37161.540202] kernal panic - not syncing: attempt to kill init! Exit code 0x00000007
[37161.540202]
[37161.540299] drm_kms_helper: Switching back to text console
Caps lock started flashing and sound stuck inn loop and frozen system.I had to hold in power button until computer died. I restarted and came here to post.
I was using Virtual Box to run Windows Vista 32 bit and media player to play Civilization IV sound track. Also running IE in VM.

HP dv6 multimedia notebook PC
Intel GMA 45

If you need more info. just ask. I have never seen Kubutu get this bad in all my years of using it. I hope its not Linux. Maybe Windows?

I also noticed that when the VM was doing something. it and my entire system would drag badly. When the VM was idle my system returned to normal. I don't know that it is VB just stating what I observed. I have seen bug reports on lunchpad that suggest the current version of KDE might have a segment fault bug in it. Maybe VB is triggering that bug some how and thus causing the kernal to stop sycning with init.
