yum update returns [errno 12] timeout from within VBOX

Post by mschreib_il »

I am unable to reach public-yum.oracle.com from within the Oracle Linux 6.4 Virtual Machine I have built. I always receive an [errno 12] timeout when executing "yum update".

I can access the public-yum.oracle.com website from the Firefox browser within the vm; I have the browser configured to "autodetect settings for this network".

Anybody know about this? I'm unable to do an Oracle11G installation because I'm missing about 6 packages, so my work on this machine is blocked until I resolve this problem.

thanks

Why do you believe that this is a problem with VirtualBox?

I believe this is a problem from Virtual Box because I am timing out while attempting to do "yum update" from a shell spawned within my Linux virtual machine running on Virtual Box.

Is there some other forum where I would have a better chance of getting a resolution?

Maybe I wasn't clear enough in my question; Why do you believe that this is a problem with VirtualBox? You can clearly access not only the wider internet, but explicitly the specific server in question. Maybe the issue is somewhere else? Actually I'm willing to bet (a lot) that it's not with VBox, but with some other aspect of your specific configuration.
