Apologies in advance if I missed something from the posting guide - first time here :/
I'm attempting to install or run 10.8.5 on 10.9, but all that happens is a bunch of CPU use, a couple window resizes, and throughout all a black screen. After a moment it stops using CPU and never progresses.
A bit of Googling suggests that it might be related to the CPU power management kext, so I've tried this technique with a NullCPUPowerManagement.kext I found online (I have no idea if there are multiple versions) : htt p://ntk.me/2012/09/07/os-x-on-os-x/ (can't post URLs? spam?)
Alas, it behaves identically.
I've also done a fresh install of 10.8.5 onto a device, updated things, then pulled an image of the hard drive. I converted that DMG to a VDI image with VBoxManage (sorry, I forget the exact command, but it did appear to work. Could hunt through my browser history if it would be helpful), and tried to boot it. Same resizing + black screen, no apparent difference.
I've attached my boot log (zipped, since it's >2mb) when using the Install ESD, and I can generate logs for the other things I've tried, I still have the images / scripts / etc I used. They all appear to have the same behavior, but I can't speak to the logs.
Does anyone have any advice, or extra data I can gather to help fix this?

Re: 10.8.5 on a 10.9 host hangs at boot
I'm seeing the same behaviour, for 10.9 client running on 10.8.5 host, both with VB 4.3.0 and 4.3.2. Logs are full of a message of the following form as seen via Grox's logs too:
"00:00:09.169290 Write to extended register 568 fallen back to generic code"
...but besides some screen size changes, nothing seems to happen in the VB instance but the black/blank screen.
See attached .zip for a copy of my logs: My host: MacBook Pro 8,2, Intel Quad Core i7 2.3Ghz, 16GB Memory, AND Radeon HD 6750M 1GB, OSX 10.8.5.
None the wiser why this isn't working. For the record on installing 4.3.2 over 4.3.0, I ran the uninstall tool, then installed 4.3.2.

CM.

Re: 10.8.5 on a 10.9 host hangs at boot
Some additional info after hunting around on other forums / other related-sounding problems:
After reinstalling 4.3.2 and still seeing the black screen, I tried the unload/load scripts from viewtopic.php?f=8&t=52406#. Turns out I had no virtualbox kexts in my /Library/Extensions/ folder. So I copied the ones from /Library/Application Support/VirtualBox/ and received the well-known-by-now "kext not signed, will still be loaded" popups. This time at least they stayed in that folder.
When I tried to load the kexts, with "sudo kextload /Library/Extensions/VBoxDrv.kext -r /Library/Extensions/", the Console app tells me:
This error is shown even after setting "Allow apps downloaded from: Anywhere" in my security prefpane. I'll try restarting my computer and testing again, but I have little hope at this point. Maybe I can self-sign them?

Re: 10.8.5 on a 10.9 host hangs at boot
Unfortunately I've still not been able to resolve this with the 4.3.6 release. Any suggestions from anyone to how I can go about resolving this issue please?

Re: 10.8.5 on a 10.9 host hangs at boot
I've moved on to greener pastures, unfortunately. Parallels and VMWare Fusion both work fine on 10.9 (after a signed-kext update, apparently within days). Not sure what's taking Oracle/VBox so long

Biased answer: I am an Oracle employee.
It is a free product, so I'm happy to help diagnose the issue & work forward.
