Hi,
I have started my first year in University and have to complete a presentation for one of my modules. I would like to ask a few questions about open source software and the community.
1) Is every part of the software open source?
2) Can everybody make changes to the software and submit them?
3) If it can be changed what are the protocols that have to be followed?
Apologies if it's in the wrong area.

Re: University Project
In general, if you plan on making substantial open-source contributions please drop a mail to the developer's mailing list before commencing. It helps avoid duplicating work and you may even get some feedback regarding the approach.
