Can't enable USB controller under Settings/USB

Hi: :)
My host is Windows and the Guest is OPenSuse 12.3. Using VB 4.2.18 with ext pack installed.

I want to use my external hard drive with VM. In VB, I clicked on Settings, USB, and then tried to enable both check boxes. I had no problem enabling the first box but the second one (USB controller) will not let me check it to enable it.

Post the results of the following in a command window.

Code: Select all

VBoxManage list extpacks
Also state the version of VirtualBox you are using.

Note: you will need to be in the same directory that has VBoxManage.exe

VB 4.2.18 r88780

Sorry but I am not familiar on how to get to "same directory that has VBoxManage.exe". I entered the command you gave and said that is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program, or batch file.

Is there a way to copy and paste these command window results?

You open a command window and then change to the directory that has VBoxManage.exe, then type VBoxManage list extpacks.

When I open the command window , it has C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator and the cursor. What do I type after that to change directory? The VBoxManage.exe file is in C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox.

Was the guest shut down (not saved state)?
That's the only other reason why you would not be able to enable USB2 in the settings that I can think of.
