Mobile phone via USB: Known USB device switches to unknown

Post by komputist »

Situation: I have an LG P970 mobile phone which I try to upgrade via Windows 8.1 (also tried XP) running in VIrtualBox on my Mac and I have added a USB filter for this particular phone in Settings: Ports: USB.

As I run the software from LG to update the phone (I followed the procedure described at the support page - LG-dot-com/au/support-mobile/lg-Optimus-Black-P970), including installing the USB driver), everything looks to work fine: The phone is avaiable in the to Windows. I can see there is some activity - and the LG software tells me that it is checking the phone settings. I even managed to take security copy of email, contacts, notes etc on that phone. While checking the phone settings, the LG software also downloaed 2-3 hundred MB of “androide update” software.

But! - and this happens every time - in that very moment (to be precise: when the LG software tells me it has installed 5% of the software) when the LG software starts to transmit/install the Android update onto the phone, the phone disappears from the list of attached devices and the Windows operative system pops up a warning message which says that there was an error on the USB device. That very same message also tells me that the device now is unknown.

I tried using an emtpy USB filter as well as a filter specific to this phone. But neither of them worked.

Could this be an error with the VirtualBox? Or is there something I can do to get it working?
