USB audio improvement

Postby dman777 » 18. Apr 2008, 00:54

I would like to make a feature request. I would like to see the USB audio get fixed. As of right now, when playing audio on a Windows guest through a usb sound card the audio is choppy.

Use USB Audio in the Guest not with USB. Use it with the normal Sound Emulation over the Host.

Stefan, could you explain this. As I understood, we should not use usb audio as regulat usb device, but as sound emulation. Where can I find this sound emulation? I looked into properties, but didn't find such option.

Hope you could help me as I am struggling with this problem for month now as I use bluetooth headset as communication device.

Guys, after some experimenting, I fixed choppy sound.

I just changed my audio settings from ALSA to OSS Audio Druver and now the sound isn't choppy anymore.

Thats exactly what i mean. Sound Emulation is better than using the Sound over USB.

No, sound emulation is not better than sound over usb. I have heard both, and I can get the best sound directly from Windows guest to my receiver thru USB without channeling through a sound emulation driver. If the glitching was fixed everything would be fine.

actually, the problem with using the usb sound card on virtualbox windows xp guest is that it doesn't buffer the music, which causes the glitching. how can this be fixed?

Re: USB audio improvement

Sorry to be late to this thread, but I'm having this same problem (choppy/"crackly" audio) using a USB headset connected to the virtual machine (running VirtualBox [PUEL] 2.2.2 under Ubuntu Linux virtualizing WinXP).

I have VMware Workstation installed on the same system and there is no audio problem with the same USB device connected and running the same application (Rosetta Stone).

I'd love to move to VirtualBox, but this is a bit of a show-stopper.

Thanks to anyone that can give me advice on how to resolve this issue.
