Virtual Box lost data from VDI disk

Post by Alex Brand »

Hello everyone.

Today is a sad day for me, because I lost results of many hours of work due to Virtual Box.
VB "forgot" to save state of VDI disk after I normally shut down the guest system (Start -> Turn Off Computer). Usually I perform this procedure many times, but only today I encountered this problem. After I started OS again and saw a terrible thing - all my new files and changes made during the last session are absent.
There is no point for me to use VB again while it fails so seriously.
But for other people who may be interested in such bugs I attach logs here.

Virtual Box version 4.2.18r88780
Guest OS: Windows XP SP3

Thanks.

From the logs, you are using Snapshots. Are you sure you did not revert to last snapshot state by mistake?
Data loss just doesn't magically occur, something must have triggered it, and nobody reported a similar issue so far for that version.

The first step would be to stop using snapshots or saved states.
