I've been using a lightweight Debian VM (no GUI) for a while now on a Windows 8 host. It ran fine with no performance issues at all. I recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 and now VB 4.3.0 as well. I'm not sure when this started, but now whenever I do tasks that use the slightest resources (like apt-get update for example), my whole system starts to stutter. Most notably the Spotify audio, as well as the mouse pointer who stops every 1 second. In short: It makes my host system unusable.
I'm not sure what's the problem here. Obviously the same VM ran fine before, and I haven't really changed the settings. It only has 2GB of 8GB ram assigned and 1 CPU (of 4), and all is running on an SSD, so I don't understand how it can even impact my whole system in this manner.
Any ideas on how to isolate the effects that this VM has? I've been running Windows 2008 Server VM's (through VMWare though) on the same system so I believe there is enough horsepower for a measly Debian box.

Check that VT-x/AMD-v is still enabled in your BIOS, that no hyper-v is installed, and that Hardware Virtualization is enabled in the VM settings.

Known bug according to Ramshankar. Check out the DPC latency thread.
