XP on Mac display resolution issues

Post by lightspeed2008 »

Hi,

couple of possibly glitchy things - all having to do with display resolution

My equip
iMac 7,1 - 20” core 2 duo — mem 3GB - OS X 10.9
main screen - 20” standard display resolution 1680x1050
2nd screen - 15” VGA @ 1024x768
VirtualBox v 4.3.0 r89960 w/extension installed running Windows XP

issue 1:
VirtualBox
view menu - seamless mode selected
virtual screen 1 - choices are host1 or host2

initially chose host1 (20” 1680x1050)
VB used full screen on 20” monitor as expected

used menu to select host2 (15” 1024x768)
VB resized itself to fit 15” 1024x768 and acts as expected

DRAGGED an app window from host2 to host1
view says it’s changed to host1; but XP is locked at 1024x768
and window is oriented from the lower left of 20” screen
and cannot be moved or resized - XP itself appears to act as expected
using view menu to change host views DOES NOT actually move the window, it stays in the host1 screen and remains locked at 1024x768.

Issue 2 - a little more complicate to explain:
this involves how VirtualBox adjusts resolutions when changing from a windowed app to seamless and back to a windowed app.

I had VB running as a windowed process at 1024x768 (XP) on the 20”. Runs as expected.
Changed to seamless mode and VB made the correct adjustments to display at 20” 1680x1050
Changed back to scaled mode - at this point, VB does not appear to adjust resolutions correctly
what I get is chopped off dialogs and redraw issues (dragging leaves ghosts). XP shows resolutions ranging from 1024x768 (actually window is stretched to something like 1024x850) to something in the 1600x1000 range and will not readjust.
Changing the resolution 1024x768 and rebooting XP does not fix the display, it comes back at the 1600x1000 something.

If i change it back to seamless, it’s OK again on the 20"; but cannot get it back to a windowed process with the correct resolution.

Thanks.
Bob
