Host IP address?

I know that this has been asked before, but the information seems to be out of date. I've got the guest network adapter set to 'internal network', and I'm trying to find the IP address to access my host machine. I'm on a Mac host and a Linux guest, and I've tried running

Code: Select all

route -n
on the guest, which should give me the default gateway but the gateway only comes up as 0.0.0.0, which I am able to ping but does not allow me to ssh to or access anything else I know is running on the host.

I've been Googling around, and apparently one used to be able to use 10.0.2.2 to access the host, but this address doesn't respond to ping nor ssh requests.

I'm really stumped, can anyone help me find the IP address for my host machine?

Internal network isolates the guest from the host so you will not see it.
See Chapter 6 of your VirtualBox users manual.

It does? I was using a tutorial for Windows as a guideline and it specifically says internal network should be able to tunnel to the host. Is this something new? The guide is from 2013. Seems odd, but wouldn't be the first time someone was wrong on the internet. Thanks for the help, I guess host-only is the next best thing.
