no first start wizard
Hello, I am a newbie
. I have Windows XP host. I downloaded and tried to install Linux SolydK32 into newly installed VirtualBox and went well until I made a mistake on something, don't remember, so I turned everything off, and started over again.. However, the "First Start Wizard" doesn't come up anymore
. I have the Linux SolydK32 file on my desktop. How do I install it in VirtualBox. I read "1.8.1. Starting a new VM for the first time" but that didn't help me at all. I tried clicking on devices but another dead end street. Machines button is another road to nowhere. There are 2 power off buttons on left. One for virtual machine and the other for Solydk32. When I turn them on, doesn't boot up

I don't see an "edit" button for my last post (above) is the reason for my posting again. I just deleted SolydK32 from the VM list and decided to start over. Clicked new. I then had no problem in beginning to reinstall it in VirtualBox until the installation bar got about 75% complete on installation at which point the "Indicates the activity....." icon on bottom tray stopped flickering. Installation did not complete. I have read FAQ for installation, and don't know where to search anymore.jimmydean67 wrote:Hello, I am a newbie. I have Windows XP host. Post a VM log file. See Minimum information needed for assistance.

Can't send zip attachment....................Message "Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached." So far seems like a real bumpy venture.
VirtualBox 4.3.0 r89960
Host –Windows XP = 13.8 Gig available
Guest – SolydK32 = size 1.466 Gig
Can't do guest additions, kernel module, no terminal anywhere......impossible to give more info.

Re: no first start wizard
I suggest you increase the guest RAM to 512MB.
Also note that the "First Start Wizard" doesn't appear if you alter any of the VM settings. However you don't need it anyway: just make sure a bootable ISO is attached to the VM, make sure the CD comes before the hd in the boot order, and start the VM. Also, as the name implies the wizard will only appear on the first start, even if you don't change any setting (I mention this because you provided me with three session logs).
p.s. You don't have the extension pack installed. Some things like USB will not work until you do.
p.p.s. This doesn't affect your current guest, but just in case there's any doubt. Your CPU doesn't support VT-x, hence you can't run 64bit VMs, and you shouldn't bother trying to enable VT-x in any VM.

Re: no first start wizard
Ok that has worked and I finally installed the guest and now using opensuse 12.3. Unfortunately, I am having to reinstall the guest everytime I try to open it from the previous session from which I "save" it. This is getting to be severely annoying and time consuming. I must have installed that OS 12.3 at least 7 or 8 times. The message I get when I try to open the previously "saved" session is:
Failed to open a session for the virtual machine OpenSuse 12.3.
Failed to load unit 'PATM' (VERR_SSM_FIELD_NOT_CONSECUTIVE).
Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)

Re: no first start wizard
Linux guest questions are off topic in the "Windows Hosts" forum. However I'll briefly observe that it sounds like you aren't actually installing the guest OS, it sounds like you're using it in "live cd" mode.
For your SSM error problem see the 4.3.0 discussion topic.

Whenever I turn on VB, the black screen pops up and says Fatal: no boot disk found. I have my Guest OS DVD in drive E of my computer. Even after OS guest is installed it says that.

Re: no first start wizard
Moved to "Linux Guests" as your questions really only have a peripheral connection to "Windows Hosts".
As I said, it sounds as if you have not installed the guest OS. When you boot up a Linux install CD/DVD it often offers two modes. In live CD mode it does a quick install to RAM only, and allows you to play around, use some built in apps etc. There will have been a separate offer to install the OS permanently to the hard disk - that is the option you should have chosen. Once installed to the (virtual) hard disk the VM will boot from the hard disk and the CD/DVD will no longer be required.
