Okay, I've searched...and searched and havent figured it out or found the right "walk through". I'd like the guest OS (windows XP) to have a different IP address then the host OS. Essentially so i can use the internet on both at the same time, and they have different IP addresses. Is this possible? Im not tech saavy in the least so some of the search results i didnt understand. Not sure if its accomplished using NAT or bridged. Any "for dummies" style help would be appreciated.
virtual box 4.2.18
Host OS is windows 8
Guest OS is windows XP
Bridged is the correct mode for what you are trying to achieve.
On the other hand, Wifi might not work (hardware related limitation).
Switch to Bridged and select your Wifi network interface, then see if you can connect to Internet. If not, then you'll need wired connection or keep using NAT.
What is the reason for wanting a specific IP on the guest? I don't see a valid technical reason for it here, especially if you are not a technical person.

Its going to sound dumn, i play online poker, and for reasons i cant cash out the money on my main account, so i set up a seperate account with my gf's information and need to 'dump my money' to her while at the same table. Only thing is we cant do it because it wont allow 2 people with same ip to sit at table. I went to network..switched to bridge. The name is the RAlink adapater which is my host laptops adaptor but still when trying to log in, is saying "there is someone at table with identical IP." thats where i got stuck cause i tried that originally. When i go to Whatsmyip they both show the same IP on guest and host OS. sorry im really not good with computer technical things, any suggestions?
You need a second public IP, not another LAN IP.
That's not something you just get as a regular user, and is absolutely not in scope of this forum I am afraid.
