I am a several years user of VMWare Workstation. I never had a problem at OS guest installation-time.
Due to the prebuilded appliances of several Oracle products, I have been wishing to use VBox for several years, but every single time I had tried VBox I have had problems, most of all OS guest installation-time. Obviously I would not use it ONLY for the prebuilded VMs.
Last issue:
VBox 4.3. I created a Linux 64-bit VM but when tried to install the OS Guest, it returned me an error saying: "Your CPU does not suupoort long mode. Use a 32bit distribution"
I searched for that error message and everything said that I had not configured the VT options into my BIOS, but I DID CONFIGURED that into my BIOS host. My host is a 2xXeon E5-2650 with 64GB of RAM, Win7 Enterprise x64.
I think it was a kind of bug, because I installed the 4.2.18 and that error disappeared. But I got another different error. The OS guest installation process did not recognize any hard disk where to install the OS.
Different erros but ALWAYS any error which avoid me to install an OS guest.
VBox 4.3 cannot install 32-bit guests
