Hi
I am using VirtualBox 4.3.0 on a Windows 7 64bit host. I am experimenting with the new video capture feature. It works well except that the mouse pointer is not being captured. Has anyone been able to get this to work? I have the latest guest additions and extensions installed.
Thanks
Grahame

Re: VirtualBox 4.3.0 Video Capture not capturing mouse point
Screen captures typically do not capture the mouse cursor, because the capture is done at a stage in the graphics pipeline before the cursor is overlaid. Also you no doubt have GAs installed, meaning you're using the host cursor, which therefore isn't part of the guest graphics pipeline at all.

Re: VirtualBox 4.3.0 Video Capture not capturing mouse point
Many thanks for replying to my question about capturing the mouse pointer using the video capture feature. What you have said makes perfect sense. I have worked around the issue by using my video capture utility on the host machine. Now, why didn't I think to do that in the first place!
Thanks again.

Re: VirtualBox 4.3.0 Video Capture not capturing mouse point
Using Guest Additions and more specifically mouse integration is what triggers this. The cursor is shown by the host and not drawn into the guest's framebuffer at all, so it can't be captured. The workaround may be to disable mouse integration. It certainly wouldn't happen without Guest Additions installed.tafeteach wrote:I am using VirtualBox 4.3.0 on a Windows 7 64bit host. I guess the question is whether users typically want to have the mouse pointer captured in the video recording or not? I can imagine it going both ways...

Yes, confirm. Similar problems (when using VirtualBox 4.3.6 with Guest Additions on a Windows 7 sp1 64bit host).tafeteach wrote:Hi

Furthermore, capturing video file (VP8 codec) is not correct.
For example. The duration of the test record 60 seconds (Windows_XP_SP3.webm.zip - yadi.sk/d/rtHVRynjJbAwS).
But popular media players (VLC VideoLAN, Media Player Classic HC.1.7.1) reported duration 10 minutes 55 seconds.

This behaviour is by design, with workaround already mentioned above... so I'm not sure why you have added to this thread.

Re: VirtualBox 4.3.0 Video Capture not capturing mouse point
Just opened the test video (60 seconds) in Firefox 19. This video plays.
But Firefox also reported not correct duration (10 minutes 56 seconds). And for this reason does not work playback navigation (forward, backward, etc...).
