defect: Mouse stopped functioning

Post by acaribe »

Host Fedora 17 linux 64 bits
Guest Windows XP SP3 32 bits

Problem: The guest system, after some days of use (everything functioning OK), stopped recognizing the USB external LOGITECH mouse. Even if the
internal mouse, (mousepad) kept working, the failure is grave because of the incomparable performance of the USB mouse.

I cloned the machine, and in the clone, the USB mouse worked perfectly. For just one day. Now, the same failure showed up, in the clone also.

I must inform the following tests where executed with positive results:

VBoxManage list usbhost output, coincides with the configurations shown by
VBoxManage showvminfo "VM name"

These results, are also confirmed by the information of the command View/USB devices, inside the running VM Clone.

How can i solve this failure ?

I consider even the hypothesis of reinstalling the virtual machine from scratch, if something i did (or did not do) in the installation
process, can solve the problem.

Any log files or additional info necessary will be sent, if needed.

Who owns this USB mouse?

The normal way for a VM to use a mouse is for the host to own it and dispense mouse clicks etc to VirtualBox as it would to any other application. Having the VM directly own the USB mouse is usually unreliable, especially if you were expecting the host to use it as well.
