[Solved] Mouse scroller does not work in guest
[Solved] Mouse scroller does not work in guest
Using a Dell Optiflex with 4Gb of RAM
Runing Lubuntu1 13.04 as both host and guest
Running VirtualBox 4.2.18 r88780
Guest addition is installed
Using PS2 mouse and keyboard plugged into a USB converter. This combination has worked solid on both Linux, and Windows boxes, as well as my Raspberry Pi running Debian Wheezy
In the guest , my mouse scoller does not scroll
In the host, the scroll works just fine
In the guest, I am forced to use the up/down or pageup/pagedown buttons to get around in a window.
Note also that in the guest, the slider to scroll up and down, has noticeably less fine control than in similar windows running in the host.
Other mouse buttons work OK in both guest and host.
P.s. This is my first attempt at using VirtualBox.

Re: Mouse scroller does not work in guest
The guest additions are mounted but not installed. Install the guest additions (in the guest)
Re: Mouse scroller does not work in guest
Thanks for your quick response
I thought I had installed it in the guest
I'm also not sure of your meaning with:
" guest additions are mounted but not installed."
Could you please explain the difference.
That should hopefully also explain where I went wrong, and how to do it right

Re: Mouse scroller does not work in guest
Logs show the guest additions are mounted in the virtualCD but you have not installed them. Just manually install them from a terminal as su/sudo.
Re: Mouse scroller does not work in guest
Basically I'm stymied at step to in instruction 4.2.1.1
I do NOT have a menu bar in the guest to be able to start device manager
Have not found a way to start the menu bar either
Hold the presses
I think I figured it out
I have to go the the
<VBoxAdditions> directory and rune one of the 3 scripts
So that raises the questions
1) Why 3 different scripts
2) which is the right one to run ?

New to Ubuntu too?
Ubuntu moved all title bar functions to their top panel.

Re: Mouse scroller does not work in guest
The additions iso contains all of the OSes that are supported. Pick the Linux one and run it.

Running >L<ubuntu not Ubuntu
Don't have a "top panel".

All 3 "shell" scripts can run in Linux
The question is which is the most applicable of the 3..

Re: Mouse scroller does not work in guest
No sh just run the following
Code: Select all
sudo ./VBoxLinuxAdditions.runRe: Mouse scroller does not work in guest
That's the one I picked after looking over the 3 of them.Perryg wrote:No sh just run the followingCode: Select all

Thanks for the pointers.
By the way, How do I flag the thread as solved ?
putting it into the first post does not propagate
