Networking Problems

Post by clope023 »

Hello, I'm a first time poster but a long time lurker.

I have a windows 8 host machine os with an ubuntu 12.04 virtualbox os, and I'm using the ubuntu to run a software called zabbix that connects to the IP addresses of a device and reads the SNMP traffic. The issue is I'm connecting to the internet via an ethernet connection and I'm not sure if I even can do this, but I'm trying to give my virtualbox os the same IP address as the one I connect to in the host. Is this possible? I've tried several different configurations, such as using NAT for adapter 1 and Host-Only networking on adapter 2 but none of them seem to give me the required functionality I need. Any and all help with this is greatly appreciated, thank you.

I'm not a network expert by any means, but this seems like a recipe for a "disaster"...

Two machines can not have the same IP address or neither one will work.

As already said, IP must be unique.
