Has anyone been able to connect from Hyper V Manager running in Host OS to a Hyper V 2012 Server running as a guest VM? I created an additional network adapter on VM and am able to RDP in but can't seem to connect the manager.
Thanks for any information.

I admit I'm not au fait with Hyper-v... but why would you expect to be able to apply the management tool of a competing VM platform (Hyper-v) to a VirtualBox VM?

Hyper-V won't really run in a vm. The hypervisor has to run directly on the hardware. You can install it and run the Hyper-V Manager but that is about all.
What exactly are you trying to do here? What OS is running on the host?

I am not au fait with Hyper-v either. Also, I don't really expect that it would work but here is the basis of my curiosity...mpack wrote:I admit I'm not au fait with Hyper-v... but why would you expect to be able to apply the management tool of a competing VM platform (Hyper-v) to a VirtualBox VM?
I am assuming that the manager is like a client and is connecting via ports to hyper v server. If that is the case then it would just be a matter of making the network adapter capable of passing the client request to hyper v server. Yes, I'm full of assumptions...

I have installed hyper v 2012 server in virtualbox on my windows 7 64 pro host.BillG wrote:Hyper-V won't really run in a vm. The hypervisor has to run directly on the hardware. You can install it and run the Hyper-V Manager but that is about all.

I read that running VM's in hyper v running as a guest was not going to work, so I guess I'm at a dead end.
Really my intention was just to test it out. But seems like testing will involve installing onto dedicated hardware instead of a VM. Thanks for the info.
