Snapshot usage

Dear All,
I have always thought I was secure if something happened to use the latest snapshot to get the VM up and running again. Earlier today my HDD was overloaded and the VM froze. I have cleaned up and have enough space on the drive again. But one of the VM's does not power up anymore to a status where I can use the snapshot. Is it possible to just copy the snapshot to the VM?
I have the following installation:
MacBookPro 15" OSX 10.8.5
VirtualBox 4.2.18 running W7 Ultimate 32Bit status: Unaccessible

giving the following error condition:

Premature end of data in tag VirtualBox line 8.
Location: '/Users/K/VirtualBox VMs/Projekto W7U-32b/Projekto W7U-32b.vbox', line 69 (8), column 38.
/Users/vbox/tinderbox/4.2-mac-rel/src/VBox/Main/src-server/MachineImpl.cpp[725] (nsresult Machine::registeredInit()).
Result Code:
NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Component:
Machine
Interface:
IMachine {22781af3-1c96-4126-9edf-67a020e0e858}

The other Virtual Machines are running fine.

The snapshot I have saved is from 26 Aug 2013. Could I just replace the actual file in the VM with this?

The error indicates a corrupt *.vbox (control) file.
You should have a *.vbox-tmp or *.vbox-prev file that you can replace the *.vbox file with.

Also this assumes you have not already trashed the guest by trying to move snapshots around.

Note: snapshots may be convenient but they are far from anything resembling a backup or disaster recovery solution.

Thanks Perry,
Although I nearly started to move the snapshot files around something prevented me. This was such a nice and easy fix. Most of my times was spend browsing on the different FAQ files. But none came up with this answer. Thanks again, Jan
