Hi, I try to clone a virtualbox virtual machine and it gives me error, I have installed virtualbox on Linux Mint 13 64-bit (based in Ubuntu 12.04 Precise)
The original virtual machine came in a .zip and I unzip the files in an external hard drive usb 2.5, the route is /media/Seagate Expansion Drive/2_ASIX/IAW/XP-SP3.The files that come in the zip are Windows XP: Logs, XP-SP3.vbox, Windows XP Client.vdi XP-SP3.vbox-prev. To install the machine simply directs me to Machine ---> Add and select the XP-SP3.vbox and automatically add the. Vdi and works fine ..

But I try to clone it and throws me the following error:

UUID {f8...} of the medium '/media/Seagate Expansion Drive/2_ASIX/IAW/XP-SP3/' does no mtah te value
{bd...} stored in the media registry ('/home/hector/.VirtualBox/VirtualBox.xml')

I tried to fix it with the following command :

$ VBoxManage internalcommands sethduuid Windows XP Client.vdi

When I use the command I get a message similar to:

UUID changed to: 2c9726ed -4100- 412e - 8b5f - d8e747ce11dc

But it does not work, I try again clone and gives me the error again..

My version of Virtualbox is 4.18 (.deb) and I have installed the extension pack with the same version ...

I think you're running a mix of v3 and v4 VMs. In v4 each VM has its own local media registry stored in the vbox file. In v3 there was one global media registry stored in VirtualBox.xml. In your case you have a mix, hence you have both.

I suspect you have media registered globally which conflicts by name (but not UUID) with the media owned by the VM.

I suggest that you right click the VM and remove it (do not delete the physical files). Shut down VBox for 30 seconds to force it to forget the VM, then start VBox up again, go to File | Virtual Media Manager and look to see if "XP-SP3.vdi" is listed, try to find out why and take appropriate action.

In the long term you should consider migrating your configuration up to VirtualBox v4 standards throughoout.
