Hi,

I'm receiving an AMD-V error when trying to install Windows 7 64-bit on my Windows 8 machine. I have verified hardware virtualization is enabled in the BIOS and upgraded to the most current version. I'm using an Asus Crosshair Formula-Z motherboard and an AMD FX-6300 Six Core Processor. Any help you could give me is appreciated, I can't figure this issue out.

Error Received

Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Test7.

AMD-V is not available. (VERR_SVM_NO_SVM).

Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: Console
Interface: IConsole {db7ab4ca-2a3f-4183-9243-c1208da92392}

The log file is attached, it contained too many characters to be posted here.

Code: Select all

00:00:06.251354 HWACCM: No VT-x or AMD-V CPU extension found. Reason VERR_SVM_NO_SVM
The VMX flag is missing from the processor tests. I would double check that you really have the hardware virtualization enabled in bios and if you do then you may need to contact asus.

Note: if this is a laptop you may need to remove the battery for a few minutes for the change to actually take.

After I posted this I solved the problem! The issue was I had Windows Hyper-V installed and once I removed it and rebooted I had absolutely no issue starting my virtual machine install. Thanks for taking a look at this anyway.

That is correct. Hyper-V locks the hardware virtualization to itself at boot time.

Well that would explain why I was having to much trouble. Thanks for the follow up.
