Stuck on "Creating process for virtual machine"

Hello there.

I have a problem with an virtual machine.

When I attempt to start it, it's stuck on:
"Creating process for virtual machine"

The image is of the Debian operative system.

I have a laptop and a PC.

It works fine on the laptop, but I get this message on my PC.

Laptop (where it works):
Windows 7 Home Premium x64
Intel i5 processor
Intel HD 4000 gfx
4gb ram

PC (where it doesn't work):
Windows 7 Professional x64
AMD Phenom II X4 processor
Radeon HD4870 gfx
4gb ram

Both are running "VirtualBox 4.2.18 for Windows hosts" with the "VirtualBox 4.2.18 Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack" installed.

No log files are reported for some reason.

I hope you can help!

Has this VM ever worked? Has VirtualBox ever worked on this host?

Where have you looked? The easiest way to view the VM log is to right click the VM in the GUI and select "Show Log". If a log is available then zip it and attach it here, along with other diagnostic info described in Minimum information needed for assistance.

The VM works on my laptop. It has never worked on my PC

I've had other VM's installed (and working) in VB on my PC in the past, but this is some time ago, and I cannot confirm with the current version of VB.

No logs are created in VBox.log. But I just tried to take a "Snapshot" within VB and got some logs which I have attached.
  • VirtualBox 4.2.18 for Windows hosts with VirtualBox 4.2.18 Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack
  • Host: Windows 7 Professional x64 (4096MB ram, 2GB available), Guest: Debian (512MB ram)
  • I've attached some info
Thank you

The provided log file has been truncated. Make sure the VM is closed before grabbing the log of the latest session.
VBox.log wrote: 00:00:11.655937 HWACCM: No VT-x or AMD-V CPU extension found. Reason VERR_SVM_DISABLED
00:00:11.656424 HWACCM: VMX MSR_IA32_FEATURE_CONTROL=0
Is this a 64bit guest? 512MB is not very much to give it if so. In any case with no VT-x/AMD-v you can't run a 64bit guest. If the CPU is what you say then it apparantly does support AMD-v, but you may have to enable that feature in the host BIOS, and make sure nothing else is already using it.

How exactly did you get this VM onto your PC?

It is a guest handed out for educational purposes, to work under a constrained environment.

I could see in my BIOS that Virtualiazation was disabled.

It is now enabled, but I still am unable to use it.

When I manually close down the session I now get this message:

Code: Select all

Kunne ikke åbne en session til den virtuelle maskine Image.

The VM session was aborted.

Retur kode: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Komponent: SessionMachine
Kort: ISession {12f4dcdb-12b2-4ec1-b7cd-ddd9f6c5bf4d}

The log file is truncated (again), and shows nothing amiss to the point at which was truncated.
