Hi, I had to install Windows on my Mac to use a specific software package for my studies so used VirtualBox. All went well [apart from a cold sweat on seeing Windows on my monitor again after four years on Mac!] but I cannot make Windows get an internet connection. Have to connect online to validate the software package. Tried clicking every option I can find in the Nat, Bridged, etc area of the settings, nothing seems to work.
The System Info says the Windows edition is Windows Server Standard (c 2007), Service Pack 2. This was provided for my studies and I don't have any other option to use.
I'm not a complete novice on a Mac or Windows but hardly an expert either so this is really beyond what I can diagnose for myself. Very grateful for any advice.

Re: Make Windows connect to Internet
VBox NAT should work right out of the box. If you left the default network settings then it should just work. If it doesn't then something host side is preventing it.
1) set the adapter to NAT
2) under advanced make sure that the Intel Pro/1000 MT desktop or server is selected.
3) cable connected is enabled

Thanks for that, good to see I was at least looking in the right area! NAT is selected, and Cable connected, but Adapter Type is set to PCnet-FAST III (Am79C973) and greyed out, I can't change it.

The guest must be shut down to make changes like that. (not saved state)

I've been trying to install Network adapters and drivers and every other thing Windows was suggesting! Windows does have a remarkable talent for making people feel stupid.
The IntelPro option is selected now, and a website just appeared so this one is solved. Thanks Perryg.
