Hi
I am running windows 7 and I have installed vbox version 4.2.16 and I have uploaded Whonix, both Whonix Gateway than Whonix Workstation
it worked good but then at Whonix Gateway it doesn't detect me the mouse, the black arrow doesn't appear (while at Whonix workstation it works good)
I have tried to install Guest additions in the Gateway but nothing
the strange thing is that before it worked and I edited a file selecting manually a line with the arrow but then nothing
I have tried and searched online but doesn't seem to be any solution
Please help me

If the GAs are not installed, click the guest desktop to switch the mouse cursor to the VM. The right ctrl key (a.k.a. "host" key) releases it again.
For some supported guest OS, a Guest Additions package is provided. Among other things the GAs provide a seamless mouse cursor, i.e. no need to click. If you want to discuss that option then I need to know what happened when you tried to install the GAs ("but nothing" is not very useful information).

Hi thanks for your reply
I have tried both with GAs installed and without (I try to install GAs graphically or typing
sudo apt-get install virtualbox-guest-X11 ..is correct?)
at the beginning it tells me
the virtual machine has detected that the guest system does not support integration mouse in the current video mode .You have to capture the mouse (by clicking inside the MV screen or pressing the host key) to use the mouse inside the guest system
I do that but
in any case NO cursor appears inside VM window,
the white cursor of the host disappears but a black cursor inside VM window doesn't appear
the mouse icon appear like cursor should be captured but no cursor appears
keyboard works instead
I have to edit a file manually the torrc and set the cursor in a line but I can't without cursor
here there is a video where it show a black cursor should appear
tinyurl dot com slash kh5vbqa
I am really desperate and I can't find any solution online, I hope you could help me
EDIT: now I have updated to 4.2.18 but same

The mouse cursor is displayed by the guest OS. I.e. the mouse hardware reports coordinates, guest OSs which have GUIs will display some representation of that using their normal graphics subsystem. Some guests (e.g. DOS) have no GUI but can show the cursor as a block. In some guests there are multiple display modes (e.g. text vs graphics) and the mouse will only be visible in the latter. I'm not familiar with "Whonix Gateway": does it have a GUI?
Anyway, you install the guest additions by using "
Devices | Install Guest Additions", though in fact all that will do is attach the GAs virtual CD to the VM. For complete instructions on how to install the GAs in a Linux guest you really need to read the user manual, and perhaps also read PerryG's excellent tutorial
Howto:Install Linux Guest Additions + Xorg config.

Thanks for your reply
I thought a lot about GUI ..I thought that was the trouble ..a lack of GUI in Whonix, anyway it mounts X11 and the cursor appears like an underscore and it is enough to edit whatever
then I have discovered the mistake was mine, I tried to edit a file from ARM instead of edit it with nano :$
Thanks for everything
Bye
