getting fatal error when triying to start up a guest machine

I installed VB and setup a guest machine on my Windows 7 host computer.

I define the VM to start up using a .vdi file that I have on my computer that was created in another environment.

The VM will not start and gives me an error saying I should send my log file and a png file to support. I am attaching those files here.

My Log file has the name WP.log.1 and when I try to attach it to this post, it tells me that the .1 suffix is invalid. So I created a copy of the log file without the .1 suffix. Now it tells me that my log file is over 128kb so it cannot be attached. What is the point of the error message telling me to submit my log and then the forum software does not allow me enough space to attach that log file? Why do the error messages and instructions not accurately reflect what I see when I go looking for stuff like this?

This is all extremely frustrating.

Huh... Compressed it is to big to post as an attachment?

Note: I deleted your png image. Black or blank images server no purpose, even if the instructions said to do so.

Sorry, my mistake. I should have thought about this before you suggested it. Here is the log file in a zip folder.

Thanks for your help.

Code: Select all

00:00:48.667223 Console: VM runtime error: fatal=true , errorID=PAEmode message="The guest is trying to switch to the PAE mode which is currently disabled by default in VirtualBox. PAE support can be enabled using the VM settings (General/Advanced)"
There is your error and the fix is even included.

In the Virtual Box Manager window, I clicked on "Settings" then in the "General" category, I clicked on the "Advanced" tab and I don't see anything related to PAE

You're right they moved it to system -> processor.

I have reported this at bugtracker so it should be corrected soon.

I am not a Linux person so can you help me with one more item? The OS that is now running inside of the Virtual Box guest is Ubuntu. I can see that there are two files and I want to copy these files to a USB thumb drive that is connected. I know I should use the "CP" command however I am not sure how to specify a destination director on the USB drive. Can you help me with this?

If you have installed the ExtPack in the host, and if you then have mounted the USB device in the guest, it should be located in /media/****

Is the ExtPack a separate download that I need from the VirtualBox site or is it already in VB and I just need to activate it somewhere?

Will the USB device be the only device with the /media/ designation?

What is the Linux command that will allow me to see all the attached drives so that I can see if the USB drive is connected to the /media/ directory before trying to copy the files I need to copy?

Sorry for all of the dumb Linux questions, I am just a windows guy trying to get two .tar files out of a .vdi file and over to my windows environment.

ls /media will show the content of that folder. You probably will see something like 8846. Then you can do ls /media/8846 to see the contents.
None of this will work unless you have installed the ExtPack and mounted the drive.
