Win7 64bit CO_E_SERVER_EXEC_FAILURE

Post by Noobness »

I am running Windows 7 64 bit (on a laptop). I just downloaded the latest virtual box binary 4.2.18 and it installs but virtual box does not start. I get a Failed o create VirtualBox COM Object Caller RC: CO_E_SERVER_EXEC_FAILURE whenever i start VirtualBox.exe. Also there is no process VBoxSVC.exe that is started when i start virtualbox (maybe related to the problem?). Also i don't see a .VirtualBox folder in %HOMEPATH%

Can someone help me out here?

IME this usually means one of the following -
  1. You installed VirtualBox without admin rights.
  2. You installed VirtualBox for the wrong user account (e.g. you installed for user "Admin").
In both cases the solution is to run the installer using "Run as adminstrator" while logged in as the correct user.

I'm running Win7 32 Bit and getting the same error. Doing what you suggested by installing it with Administrator and running it as Administrator and still receiving the same issue. I also tried to remove .VirtualBox directory and re-installing and it still does the same. The version I'm installing is VirtualBox-4.2.18-88781-Win. Any help or suggestion is appreciated.

My apologize the error is:

Failed to create the VirtualBox COM object.

The application will now terminate.

mpack didn't tell you to install as Administrator, but to install with Administrative rights. This means with your user being into the Administrators groups and not saying no to any UAC prompt.

I've done that as well with Administrative rights. I have UAC prompts off so no prompts there for me. Strange, I've never ran into this issue before. I was able to install this on my other Win7 and Win8 fine. I'm still googling for resolution. Thanks for your feedback.
