Hallo I just upgraded to VB 4.2.18 r88780 both VB and the guests additions, on a 10.7.5 MBP.
The "incriminated" guest is a W8 Pro updated to latest updates.
After upgrading VB, the guest doesn't switch to full screen, nor recognize Custom Video Modes extradata (nor in "1920x1200" or "1920,1200" format).
FS modes should be 1280x800 (primary integrated display) and 1920x1200 (external 2nd display)
I'm considering to downgrade to previous VB version: should I downgrade guest additions first? Am I allowed to to with just a uninstall and install?
Or have you any other advices for forcing the host to recognize fullscreen modes?
Thanks in advance

Re: [Again on] Fullscreen not working
Just to register that I have the same problem.
Upgraded to 4.2.18, including extensions, on OSX 10.8.4 host (2013 iMac).
VM Guests:
On Windows 8 guest, fullscreen results in covering full screen with black background, but displaying the Windows screen centered and fixed, I'm guessing about 5/8 the width and 3/4 the height of my iMac 27" monitor.
(I don't know how to get a screenshot of it when in fullscreen mode)
TIA

Re: [Again on] Fullscreen not working
Just FYI: your iMac native res should be 2560 by 1440. Chances are you are seeing the Windows frame @1920 by 1200 or 1280. Could you confirm please?gpaCook wrote:... displaying the Windows screen centered and fixed, I'm guessing about 5/8 the width and 3/4 the height of my iMac 27"
The maximum resolution recognized by my W8 guest is 1400 by 1050.

Re: [Again on] Fullscreen not working
I uninstalled the 4.2.18 additions and suddenly I gained resolutions higher than 1400 by 1050.
I installed the 4.2.16 additions (from ISO http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualb ... 4.2.16.iso).
After restarting I got back the feature of automatic resizing desktop according to window size which solves it all.

Here's what I have discovered about screen resolutions:raffaele wrote:Just FYI: your iMac native res should be 2560 by 1440. Chances are you are seeing the Windows frame @1920 by 1200 or 1280. Could you confirm please?

- Host resolution is 2560 x 1440
In vbox version 4.2.18, MS Windows 8 guest, resolution is only 1600 x 1200, and that is the highest available.
In previous vbox version (see note below), in MS Windows 8 guest, resolution is 2560 x 1440, and is available on the listed choices.
Note: There is a slight uncertainty about what I reverted back to for this test. Here is why: I reverted back to previous version of vbox by restoring folders:
- ~/VirtualBox VMs
~/Library/VirtualBox

Maybe you forgot to re-install 4.2.16 in the /Applications folder when you were restoring.gpaCook wrote:However, when I display "About VirtualBox" from the VirtualBox menu, it still indicated 4.2.18, which I don't understand.

Re: [Again on] Fullscreen not working
thank you guys.
I uninstalled and remove anything using a Virtualbox Uninstall Tool script I found times ago on VB website.
I'm reinstalling VB 4.2.16.
This is not the first time that a new VB release breaks video modes, I'll be more careful in the future.
Thank you again
