Again about widescreen resolutions

I installed Windows 8 guest os and tried to set up 2 monitors for VM. Both of monitors are widescreen and each of them has different resolution.
I found that it is impossible to use more then one monitor without installing of guest additions, so I installed them.

Without using guest additions I was able to add custom resolutions with command

Code: Select all

VBoxManage.exe setextradata "Win 8 dev" CustomVideoMode1 1366x768x24
I executed

Code: Select all

VBoxManage setextradata global GUI/MaxGuestResolution any
but it showed me only 4:3 related resolutions in display properties.

executing of

Code: Select all

VBoxManage controlvm "Win 8 dev" setvideomodehint 1366 768 24
didn't take any effect to resolutions even after system reboot.

After reinstalling guest additions widescreen resolution 1366x768 appeared in monitor properties, but only for first monitor.

Help me pls to add widescreen resolution 1920x1080 to second monitor.

P.s. now VM set 1600x1200 to second monitor each time after it starts.
P.p.s. Please don't suggest me to resize VM window, I need ONLY fullscreen mode :-)

You are not understanding the relation of VBox full screen and how it pertains to a guest.
If you want full screen resolution you use the host+f (full screen) toggle to achieve this. Hints can get you close but the guest will only see what it is being presented with.

Exactly! After I have installed guest additions and pressed Ctrl+F I got 1024x768 on first monitor and 1600x1200 on second monitor in full screen mode.
Then I performed all described above, I got 1366x768 on first monitor(which is same as it is real resolution) but still 1600x1200 on second monitor in full screen mode.
Can you pls help me to set resolution of second monitor to 1920x1080(which is real resolution for it)?

First thing I would do is get back to the beginning. Remove all the extra bits you have added and then use the host+f toggle to go to full screen.
The guest may not report the proper size at first and you really shouldn't depend on it doing so. If you shut the guest down in full screen it will open in full screen and you should be able to see the change in the guests setting.

When I try to execute

Code: Select all

VBoxManage.exe setextradata "Win 8 dev"
I got an error

Code: Select all

VBoxManage.exe: error: Failed to create the VirtualBox object!
VBoxManage.exe: error: Code CO_E_SERVER_EXEC_FAILURE (0x80080005) - Server execu
tion failed (extended info not available)
VBoxManage.exe: error: Most likely, the VirtualBox COM server is not running or
failed to start.
After starting VM set first monitor resolution to 1152x824 but after few seconds automatically switched to 1366x768(which is exactly what I want),
but second monitor still have 1600x1200. After shuting down and starting in full screen mode nothing changed.

To disallow a value entered with VBoxManage, you retype the command and leave off the value. (value noted in red below)
VBoxManage.exe setextradata "Win 8 dev" CustomVideoMode1 1366x768x24

I re installed VirtualBox with disabled antivirus programm.
Execution of

Code: Select all

VBoxManage.exe setextradata "Win 8 dev" CustomVideoMode1
finished without errors, but resolution for second monitor still same, even after reboot.
By the way, I find out, that even if I set resolution of second screen manually to any another value, after switching to window mode and back VirtualBox set 1600x1200 to second monitor automatically.

Well I'm out of suggestions. I can not reproduce your error and don't know what else to tell you.
Wn-8 and Win-8.1 both use full screen for me in both displays. I didn't have to do anything fancy just install the guest additions (in the guest) turn on the 2 display mode in the the guest settings and adjust for 2 displays in the guest. Hit host+f for full screen and it worked. Perhaps someone else will have seen this and reply.
