Virtual Box Is Read Only

Hey, thank you for taking time to read.
This is my first virtual box install so I may have done something daft or left out something important but can't see what...
I am using VirtualBox Version 4.2.18r8870 on a Windows Vista system and using CentOs-6.4 in my box. All defaults were used during the install and I have tried two different base boxes(from vagrant.es) but something is wrong.
I am unable to edit my Hostname (currently localhost.localdomain) as the file "etc/sysconfig/network" is readonly.
I am also unable to ping. "ping -c 5 8.8.8.8" returns "Destination Host Unreachable"
When I try and change Virtualbox > Settings > Network Attached to: NAT it just reverts back to it previous setting instantly.
I read on these forums that there was a read only issue but I looks like that was solved years ago. I do not have any extensions installed.
I have no idea what is causing the problem or where to start to resolve it.
