No "Machine View Devices Help" menu (MaxOS host)

Post by Spianjo »

I want to install Guest additions but I don't seem to have any "Machine View Device Help" menu.

Host OS is OSX 10.8.4 and Guest OS is Lubuntu 13.04.

I have tried Host+C (cmd+C) but this doesn't help.

The menu bar is at the top of the VM window, it is not part of the manager window. If you are using fullscreen or seamless then the menu changes to a popup type that you access by moving the mouse to the bottom of the window. The menu will be there in one of these fashions unless you specifically disabled it using "setextradata ... noMenuBar".

I know it's supposed to be in the VM window and I have not explicitly disabled the menu, but I might be using seamless mode. Regardless I don't see and I can't trigger a popup menu by moving the mouse to the bottom of the window.
There is another pop-up menu accessible at the bottom left corner of the VM window with categories/elements "Graphics", "Internet", "Games" etc but not "Machine View Devices Help". Attached a picture but not sure if it helps with the resolution I could fit in about 200 kB.

I found that if in full screen mode (HOST+F) I move the mouse very slowly towards the bottom/edge of the center part of the window/screen a "Machine View Devices Help" toolbar pops up. I can't make this happen in non-full screen mode however.

The popup is only there when the menu bar isn't. The menu bar should be there if your VM window has a caption.

The popup is there together with the menu bar, but only in full screen mode.

If the menu bar is present then you aren't in fullscreen mode, probably you just maximized the window.

My browser (Firefox) is not allowing me to download your .tiff images. A .png would probably be better.

I also think it's time you posted a VM log file. See Minimum information needed for assistance.
