Having issues with guest additions

Post by Evan2341 »

Hey all,
Ive used VB before and had no issues using things like usb's and what not, however this time when i installed it i cant seem to get my guest additions working. I'm running a windows 7 virtualbox and when i click on devices->install guest additions nothing seems to happen :/

Any advice is greatly appreciated guys :)

Clicking on device -> install guest additions only mounts the guest additions ISO and if your guest has autorun enabled it will start. However Windows 7 has it disabled so use the file manager to start the install manually.

Seriously?

Open the guests file manager and look under the CD/DVD. Run the install. Just like you would any program.

The guest additions actually have nothing to do with USB. For that you would need to install the Extension Pack. ( must match your version of VBox )
How to install Extension Pack
However there are challenges with USB on a Mac host. Google usb on Mac site:virtualbox.org

It installs within the VirtualBox directory but that should not be a concern. The link I posted shows how to install it and there is also a link on where to download it from. Assuming of course you have the new version of VirtualBox installed. Now if you are asking where did it download the install file to I can not answer that. The host and location of downloads are the users responsibility to know.
