When hitting enter on Debian's "install," it completely freezes!! I tried to uninstall and install VirtualBox but same thing happened.
Im using Windows Vista Home Premium.
The current version for VirtualBox is 4.2.16
Debian version is 7.1.0 i believed..
Debian's memory size: 512MB
Debian's virtual hard drive: 8GB, tried 32 GB also..

Everything seems fine except for this line :
00:00:10.698296 Console: VM runtime error: fatal=false, errorID=HostAudioNotResponding message="Some audio devices (PCM_in, PCM_mic) could not be opened. Guest applications generating audio output or depending on audio input may hang. Make sure your host audio device is working properly. Check the logfile for error messages of the audio subsystem"
Try disabling the Audio of the VM in the settings, and see if it makes any difference.

I would also observe that the VM is suspended after only 10 seconds, in fact the whole session has ended by the time 30 seconds is reached. That hardly seems like long enough to conclude that the VM was frozen.

Tried disabling audio but same result. But never mind i got it to work. Seems like i had to download the i386 version instead of the amd64. But thanks!

Try changing the architecture for the VM from 32-bit to 64-bit. I wrote up about this exact issue since it burned me as well on the Unix & Linux stackexchange site. The Q&A is here: unix . stackexchange . com/questions/110208/why-cant-i-install-debian-amd64-in-virtualbox. This setting is under the VM settings under "General".

Take out the " . " and put in "."'s to access the URLs. I don't have privs. yet to post links.

@slm. The above discussion concerns VirtualBox 4.2.16. The need to use a 64bit template AFAIK really only became a big issue in 4.3.x, so your Q&A discussion is unlikely to be helpful. If you look at the OPs log file there are several obvious issues having to do with attempting to install a 64bit OS into a 512MB RAM VM on a host that doesn't have 64bit support. Downloading the i386 release fixed the OPs problem.
