Re: modifying the size of two disks .vdi
What is the point of bombarding us with all these screenshots? Focus on a question and ask it: provided of course that the question is about VirtualBox and not about GParted.
[As mod I have since deleted the message with all the GParted screenshots].

Re: modifying the size of two disks .vdi
I have seen an issue before where Gparted failed and you need to see if the same thing happens with parted magic.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/partedmagic/
Since Gparted is mentioned in the tutorial is seems only fair that if there is an issue we need to address it.

Re: modifying the size of two disks .vdi
I have a lot of gparted screenshots if necessary
I tried pmagic (include gparted)
When I reach the disks first time where marked with a danger signal. I proceed to check two disks.
And seems to be resolved because appear in 50 GB sizes.
I only checks the disks to repair.
Outside the virtual machine the two disks seems to be of 50 GB. Inside GParted figure the occupied size
Shutdown and enter in the system .
The disk now show no data. In the disk administrator show the 10 GB size and the rest in other partition.
I enter again in pmagic and try to send 1 MB after the size partition of 50 GB to offer me the possibility to resize the partition with 1 MB less because in the present state don't let me resize.
But when try give me the same message I constated before in the screenshots that were deleted.
So I shutdown and wait for instructions.
Best Regards
Note : is supposed that the htm file have the same content as the above.

Re: modifying the size of two disks .vdi
No I don't need screenshots. Just make sure you keep the original and the clone and I will look at this tomorrow.
Re: modifying the size of two disks .vdi
The answer from the gparted forum :
Unfortunately Windows dynamic disk partitions are not well understood by the open source community as Microsoft does not freely publish the specifications.
This is a known problem. See also Bug 634668 - Resizing of NTFS fails if partition type is 42.
If you need to resize a Windows dynamic disk, then unfortunately GParted will not work for you. You might try searching for other tools that might handle resizing Windows dynamic disks.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=634668
probably i have some partition tool in the dust desktop. Or can download a trial of a good tool.
Best Regards

Re: modifying the size of two disks .vdi
Do you have a Windows 7 guest? You could attach the drives to it and use the Windows disk manager to extend the primary partition.
Or I would guess a Windows partition manager.

Re: modifying the size of two disks .vdi
Windows 7 is difficult. The license allows only one installation. All have changed. Only one pc, only one partition, only one vm. Each installation a license.Perryg wrote:Do you have a Windows 7 guest? You could attach the drives to it and use the Windows disk manager to extend the primary partition.

Terrible indeed.

Re: modifying the size of two disks .vdi
Your issue is rare indeed. I tested again today and did not run into this issue on two XP guests using Gparted and Parted Magic. Sadly it really has nothing to do with VirtualBox since it is a 3rd party partitioner that can not work for you.
Re: modifying the size of two disks .vdi
Parted Magic is simply Gparted again.Perryg wrote:Your issue is rare indeed. I tested again today and did not run into this issue on two XP guests using Gparted and Parted Magic. Sadly it really has nothing to do with VirtualBox since it is a 3rd party partitioner that can not work for you.
Do you are saying that there is no possibility with any other live CD partitioner ?
Re: modifying the size of two disks .vdi
Rare indeed. Go in contradiction with the Gparted forum about dynamic disks.Perryg wrote:Your issue is rare indeed. I think I put the results here.
I don't understand how you get the partition in that case.

Re: modifying the size of two disks .vdi
Creating a partition is easy. Manipulating one is different.
You said that the information was data. I guess you could take the long way around and copy the data off, create a new drive of 51200MB ( 50GB ) and then copy the data back to the new drive, if you can not find a different partition manager that will work for you.
