Post the guests log file (as an attachment)
See Online Users Manual for the location of the file.

Ok do a complete shut down (not saved state) of the guest and then start it see if it works and if not shut it back down and post the log file again.

Also if is does not work post the guests /var/log/vbox-install.log file as an attachment.

Did the complete shutdown then restarted, still not allowing copy/paste from host to guest, also there was no guest terminal window, is that due to not saving 'saved state of the guest'? Have added the Log, hope it sheds some light. Doc Strange

No. It actually indicates an issue with the guest OS.

I see the additions are having a hard time of it. I asked for the /var/log/vboxadd-install.log (although I forgot to add the add sorry)
I need to see it.

Next if memory serves me BT used to ship wit a form of guest additions already installed. Installing the official guest additions without first removing the distro installed version will corrupt the guest additions. You can try removing them and installing the official version again.

Right I see on VB Log viewer there's 3 more logs under tabs marked 1.2.3 I take it you need those?

... as to BT5 yes on the menu there's Guest Additions, it's from there I've been install the GA

Regarding your advice "first removing the distro installed version will corrupt the guest additions. You can try removing them and installing the official version again." Could you walk me through that as I am not familiar with the method, thanks. Doc Strange

No I need to see the file that is created in the guest. It is located as I indicated.
/var/log/vboxadd-install.log

The easiest way to clean the mess is to use the terminal and enter the following commands.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get purge VirtualBox* && sudo apt-get purge virtualbox*
Once everything has been purged from the guest you need to reboot it and then install the guest additions again followed by another reboot.

Carefully typed into the guest terminal

sudo apt-get purge VirtualBox* && sudo apt-get purge virtualbox*

and last line of message is

E: Couldn't find package VirtualBox*

Advice?

Then run the separately

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get purge VirtualBox*
then

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get purge virtualbox*
One of them should remove what needs to be removed.
