Virtual USB stick in VirtualBox

Post by viegelinsch »

Hi,

I'm tinkering around with a special live linux distribution.
This live system is booted from a DVD and is patched so it cannot access the hard-drives of the host computer. This feature is intended and mandatory!
Instead it is possible to plug in a USB flash memory (USB stick) where configuration and updates can saved to.

I would like now to test this complete system in VirtualBox. (It's much easier and faster then booting a physical pc.)
My only problem is to find a way to emulate the USB stick. Is there any feature in VirtualBox to do so?

I found several articles describing how to mount the image of an USB stick as a hard-drive but given the restrictions above, this is no solution for me.

I'm running VirtualBox on Ubuntu Linux and OS X.

Any hints and advises welcome.

With best regards

If your virtual system is booting of a DVD (ISO) then you should be able to connect a real USB stick to that guest.
