- I have just created a virtual box using OEL 5.9. 64 bit on a Windows 7 64 bit desktop machine.
- I have the following (default) network configuration:
Adapter1: NAT
Adapter Type: Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop (82540EM)
This adapter is enabled

- Yet, I am unable to get a correct etho addess:
eth0
inet addr:10.0.2.15

Does someone know how to configure properly eth0 address?

That's a NAT address. Why do you not consider that "a proper eth0 address"? NAT VMs communicate via the host, so don't get their own independant addresses.

A proper IP address would be (for me) for instance: 192.168.44.123.
Because there is a virtuyal machine/server installed in the virtual box, I should be able (externally to that box) to ping the IP address of the virtual machine/server and get an answer without error.
Furthermore, from another Linux machine, I should be able to access that virtual machine/server as: ssh user@192.168.11.123.
(this is for instance possible with vmware with the default NAT settings).

Any suggestions regarding NAT/network configuration to access that server from outside?

As I said, 10.x.x.x is a NAT address. If you want the guest to have a true network connection then use bridged networking.

I'm not sure why you're now introducing a second adapter? I expected you to reconfigure the first one.

I introduced a second adapter to keep the initial one (default) untouched.

With bridged mode your VM is the same as any other PC - it will be assigned an IP address by whichever DHCP server is responsible for handing out IP addresses to other PCs on the same network. At my home it's done by the router. In an office it might be done by a server PC.
