Since the only thing you have mounted as an image is the descriptor and not a VDI or image file you can not boot from it. Delete the file and start over. You need to attach the install ISO to the virtual CD/DVD and go through the install process at which time you can choose to install to the USB device if that is what you want to do, but it must be install there through VirtualBox.

The reason I used VMDK is because of this thread http://superuser.com/questions/360517/w ... vhd-or-hdd

that was just a choice in setting up the virtual machine......?

EDIT: Yes this is a common issue. I should be able to take it from here. It was that link that guided me to the VMDK setting and also I was not sure which to choose. A redownload, and a few different setting configuration should do the trick.

**************

Oic, I erased and remade the Back Track file as VDI and then this time when I tried starting VB I was asked to select a Virtual Disk Drive.

The ISO it shows available is the Guest Additions ISO by default. I opened my pendrive and the ISO is not available for Back Track.

The have another ISO from BT5 in my home folder, but I can't be sure of its authenticity. Possibly it is corrupt.

I am receiving this message

I would just download a fresh copy of the ISO, but part of the original trouble (apart from VB) is my Internet connection. I'll download a fresh copy tonight but I have to let it run over night. I'll add this post up for now in case it may possibly not be a problem with the ISO, but rather a setting.

Thank you,

Implement
