RESOLVED:https web site cert error
Hi,
I'm newbie to VB. I installed VB on win7 machine. Then installed Linux mint 15 as guest os. The guest os works fine and stable except for one thing. In firefox, I can't open any https web sites like gmail, hotmail etc. All giving me certificate error. I tried other browser like chromium but same result. I have Linux mint on a usb and it doesn't have the same issue. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Strange. I can't think of anyway VirtualBox would affect the browser in a guest. I would look at the host side and your router for the cause. Are you using a proxy?
Re: https web site cert error
No, I go online directly. The VBox is installed on win7. I read some posts saying that if the time of the guest os is out-of-sync it can result in such error. I tried to manipulate the time but after 1 or 2 secs it goes back to original. It seems to me VBox has control on it.

Re: https web site cert error
Where did you read this, and how would that effect the browsers certificate? The browser either has or does not have the cert. A blocked 8080 port would cause this though. What happens if you temporarily disable the hosts firewall, or a 3rd party firewall that some install with their virus software?I read some posts saying that if the time of the guest os is out-of-sync it can result in such error.

Re: https web site cert error
I can imagine why the clock would have an effect on certificates. E.g. I have a vague notion that some certificates expire, so they'll presumably have well defined start and end dates. Tough luck for anybody trying to get a Windows demo VHD to run indefinitely!

I installed opera and it gives a different message. See attached screenshot.

Re: https web site cert error
I spent some time installing win7 in VBox. When I use IE to browse gmail there, it is the same warning message popup.

Re: https web site cert error
The ability for your browser/s to get and store web based security certificates has nothing to do with VirtualBox. If you can actually get to a site that does not require certificates then your problem is something else.
From what I am seeing you do not have the certs stored on the guests browser and it is asking you if you want to store them or not. If you do not store them than it will always ask you this question.

Re: https web site cert error
I have chromium installed. When it shows this error, it doesn't give me the option to store the exception certs.
As for all http sites, it can access with no problem. But the strange thing is that the win7 VM also encounters the same problem.

Re: https web site cert error
That error message appears because your software firewall tries to scan the https connections.

Re: https web site cert error
As indicated by Martin, the problem is with ESET which scans all SSL requests and causes the problem. I followed the steps to disable SSL scan in ESET advance setting and everything runs superb!
Much appreciate everyone's help.
