Error (0x80004005)host XP

Post by figuro »

Ubuntu 12.04 precise

After VM working properly for months I receive this error(0x80004005)
I read some of the similar problems on Virtualbox forum and decide to remove VM,with Synaptic I remove it but not with “Mark Complete Removal” restart Ubuntu and from Synaptic install vbox-4.2.16 for precise.
Start VirtualBox window come up with this error:

Runtime error opening '/home/luis/VirtualBox VMs/Windows XP/Windows XP.vbox' for reading: -102 (File not found.).
/home/vbox/vbox-4.2.16/src/VBox/Main/src-server/MachineImpl.cpp[725] (nsresult Machine::registeredInit()).
Result Code:
NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Component:
Machine
Interface:
IMachine {22781af3-1c96-4126-9edf-67a020e0e858}

Searching in Ubuntu for.OVA file it failed.
Please explain how to export VM to .OVA file and how to fix the error.
Thank you

I don't understand. How exactly did you "remove" the VM? If you deleted with the host or an external tool then it is gone. If you had removed it from the GUI then you would not be getting the error which says that the VM is missing.

You can't export a deleted or unregistered VM to an OVA. You can however use Machine|Add... to reregister it.

Also, if this is the Ubuntu repo version of VirtualBox then we don't support that version here, as that is someone else's fork and it's their responsibility to support their users.

Please post a VM log file if you want to discuss this further, and you are not using the Ubuntu repo version.

First and most important is to inform you I am complete new with VM.
I am working with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS precise it is my main OS
I had VM working properly before with Windows XP as a guest, not in this new version.
Ubuntu has Synaptic which is a application to download and install
applications it was from Synaptic that I uninstall VM I suppose is
uninstall from Host, now this Synaptic has the new “VM ver.4.2.16-86992-Ubuntu-precise” meaning this is the one for my OS and the one
that I install and the gave the error 0x80004005.
To me is not Ubuntu repo version.
I search for “VM log” and I found in system/var/log/ and found various.
1= Xorg.0.log 2= Xorg.0.log.old 3= Xorg.1.log 4= vbox-install.log
sending as a attachment the Xorg.0
Hoping this explains enough for you to help me.
Thank you

I gave you a link in my previous message which explains how to post the VM log. Briefly, the VM log file is called "VBox.log", and can be found in the "Logs" subfolder of your VM folder. Or, right click the VM and select "Show Log". Make sure the VM is shut down at the time. There are four logs, I only need one provided it was of a "problem" session. Please zip up the log and upload it here as an attachment to a message.

I read the link before and search my Hard Disk for the files, as couldn’t find nothing I send to you
information from Minimum information needed for assistance.
I search Vbox.log on Hard Disk and on System unsuccessful. On /var/log/, is a file called vbox-install.log, I can send this file if it helps you.
When I had the other VirtualBox there was a VM folder on Home since install the new one there
inst the folder for Virtualbox. When start VM from Dash Home it opens the VM window on the left is ? icon with the name “Windows XP” underneath Inaccessible, clinking on this shows a menu with Show Log but is shadowed.
If uninstall with Complete Removal and then install VM again will fix it?

If you can't find the VM folder, the logs subfolder, the "VBox.log" file - and if we include the error message saying "Windows XP.vbox" - file not found.... then I'd say you must have deleted your VM folder, in which case your VM is gone. If it was only moved then surely your search would have uncovered the VBox.log file, since you can't (by default) launch a VM without it creating a log file.

So yes, I think you should delete the old VM from the GUI and recreate it from the beginning. Reinstalling the VirtualBox software is probably a good idea too.

I googled it, but not sure if it works:

Do this by starting the computer in safe mode—you can start in safe mode by starting the computer and pressing the F8 key during startup. Then, start the Registry Editor, and delete the following registry keys:
1. HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Cryptography\Providers
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-20\Software\Microsoft\Cryptography\Providers
Then, quit the Registry Editor and restart the computer.

See http://www.error.info/windows/access-0x80070002.html

Cheers,
Andy

It would be rather unwise to delete registry keys just because an Oracle VirtualBox error code happens to be the same as a Microsoft error code. Obviously it would be even more unwise when the codes don't even match, like in this case.
