All,
I'm using a Windows 7 VM from an Ubuntu Host...
I'd like to be able to connect to SQL Server instances using 'windows authentication' but I don't think I've configured the VM correctly...
I'm also not sure if I'm describing the problem correctly...SQL Server Management studio doesn't give the option to enter your domain\username as does some windows functionality...So I'm wondering what I can set on my VM such that I'm logging in as my domain\user rather than my vmname\username...
Hopefully that makes sense!
Thanks!

Re: Joining a Windows Domain from inside a Win 7 Guest VM?
The OS in a vm is just the same as that in a physical machine. It can join the domain as long as it has the correct network config and is in the right network.
Is your host in the same network as the domain controller? If it is, setting the vm to use bridged mode networking should be all that you need. The vm will then get its network config from the DHCP server on the network and should have the correct DNS address to join the domain.

Re: Joining a Windows Domain from inside a Win 7 Guest VM?
Thanks, BillG...
That seems to be working, but what I'm trying to do is be logged in as my domain user...rather than (I believe) a workgroup user I created when I set up the OS on the VM...
That way, when I'm logged in as domain\user I'll be able to use 'windows authentication'...
Again, I hope I'm asking the right question...
Thanks again!!!

BillG et al,
I think what I'm after lies in this solution:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/wind ... o-a-domain
Simple, but I'm going to have to track down the correct parameters with my IT department!
Thanks for your help!

Well yes it does, but that really has nothing to do with VirtualBox. I assumed you knew how domain membership worked.
