The mouse issue I just noticed, but it may have been happening for a longer period of time. The click point is not at the mouse pointer; it is shifted left a small distance (possibly the same distance as the black stripe's width). I tried disabling and enabling the mouse pointer intrgration - this gave me two mouse pointers, the actual one and a "shadow" pointer which was at the actual click point on the guest! Disabling and re-enabling again made this "feature" go away, but the problem still persists.

video and mouse issues Win 8 guest on Win 7 host
I have been having video issues from day one after installing Windows 8 guest on a Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 host. I also have a Windows XP SP3 guest which so far works flawlessy (at least as far as VBox is concerned
). Anyway the video issue, which occurs no matter which VB screen mode I choose or which video resolution I choose in the guest OS is a black stripe down the right side of the VB window and Windows 8 has a horizontal scroll bar in it (not the VB window) which scrolls just about as far as the black stripe is wide. BTW changing the VB screen mode causes portions of the VM's screen to disappear - even clikcing in the invisible portion brings the host window behind to focus. My current VBox version is 4.2.16 r86992. In the System Settings | Display I have both 3D Acceleration and 2D Acceleration checked.

Have you tried with 3D & 2D off?

Thanks, I just tried that and it seems to have cured the black bar on the right hand side, as well as the mouse issue. I still have the horizontal scrollbar, only on the Start screen of Windows 8. Any idea what that is all about?

is the scrollbar within the guest or in the host?

Re: video and mouse issues Win 8 guest on Win 7 host
The scrollbar is within the host. I just installed Visual Studio 2012 Web Express and the icon on the Start screen was well over to the right. I now see that the scrollbar in question is a normal part of the Windows 8 Start screen. Thanks for your help - looks like my problem is solved!
