Hi all,
I am using latest VirtualBox on my host Windows XP. I have installed guest Ubuntu 10.4 in VirtualBox. Either through 'NAL' or "Bridged Network" I am able to ping host-guest.
But I am not able to access host internet in guest!
My host has single 'Realtek LAN connection'. Also I am having Broadband internet on my host, which is binding with it's MAC. I use 'WAN Miniport (PPPOE)' dialup on my host for internet connection.
I searched through google, but anything didn't worked.
Please help me to use or share host internet on my guset.
Best Regards,
Aniket Salunkhe

Please run the following in your host - for the vboxmanage command, run it from the VB install directy and replace VmName :
From the guest :
Code: Select all
vboxmanage showvminfo VmName --details
ipconfig /all
route print
ping 8.8.8.8
ping google-public-dns-a.google.com
nslookup 8.8.8.8
nslookup google-public-dns-a.google.comCode: Select all
sudo ifconfig -a
sudo route -n
ping -c 4 8.8.8.8
ping -c 4 google-public-dns-a.google.com
nslookup 8.8.8.8

Re: Sharing host Windows XP internet on guest Ubuntu 10.4
Thanks noteirak for reply.
With 'Bridged Network', I am able to ping between Host & Guest.
But whenever I ran the commands (ping & nslookup to 8.8.8.8 or google) given by you on both Host & Guest, I was getting "Request timed out".
I suppose that error on Host may be because of firewall settings by my ISP.
Is there any other method to setup internet on Guest?

If you can ping between the guest & the host, then you have to check the network configuration, something is missing somewhere. If you can't ping 8.8.8.8 then the error seems to be in your router more than anything.

Re: Sharing host Windows XP internet on guest Ubuntu 10.4
[SOLVED]
Thanks noteirak for guiding me.
I followed following steps,
1. Set network as 'NAL' through Virtual Box settings through host OS (Windows XP)
2. Set IP setting as 'Automatic (DHCP) addresses only' in guest virtual OS (Ubuntu)
3. Set DNS as 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220
Now I can access host internet on virtual guest without additional network settings.
